What the test measures

Albumin and total protein

ALT, AST, ALP and GGT

Enzymes doctors use to look for liver irritation or damage. A high ALP can also point to bone disease.

A yellowish waste product that the liver removes from the blood.

  • Family history of liver disease, alcohol use, obesity, diabetes or exposure to hepatitis
  • You take medicines that can affect the liver
  • Monitoring a known liver condition

Abnormal values do not always mean liver disease, and your doctor may repeat the test. Imaging or other blood tests may follow. Yellow skin or eyes should be checked promptly.

How to prepare

  • Follow the fasting instruction shown at booking. Medical sources differ, so we show the one our lab uses.
  • Plain water is fine while fasting.
  • Tell us about every medicine you take. Do not stop any unless your doctor tells you to.
